Thought I would share with you some of the delights of PMH (Foo Me Hoong as it's said) that I stumbled across yesterday. It's so hard to describe this place I thought I'd let pictures speak. If you have been to Vietnam you will know that the streets are normal narrow and dirty and full of motorbikes and vendors and people sitting on tiny plastic stools that would in no way hold my weight. Phu My Hung or Saigon South could not be more different.
I had a good day. A great breakfast in the worlds best cafe which I will get to in a second. Went into town and my Vietnamese boss ended up sending me to this great department store where I could get everything. Most of it gets delivered tomorrow so I will share photos of that then.
When I got back to "Expatville" I went for a big walk and the more I discovered PMH the more I loved it. Especially this street name!!!
Ok... So this is what the streets look like. Big wide avenues lined with trees. The lawns are super manicured and there are no street vendors or icky stuff. It's like the Vietnamese version of pleasantville.

These are some of the 'cafe culture' streets where there are lovely restaurants and bars and outsidey bits and fairy lights etc. I love that even the Vietnamese restaurants are really flash.

They even have KFC! But no Maccas... there is a korean chain called Lotteria that has burgers and things. Wrap and Roll is like Vietnam Fast Food. Haven't tried it yet but it looks great. In fact apparently 70% of the population of this area is Korean. It's like the big Korean hub. Certainly my apartment building seems to be full of Koreans. All fine by me. :)

This is my apartment building. Note the huge gloria jeans downstairs. My apartment is the one with a red box around it. 2nd Floor from the top and far right of picture. Then there is the view from my balcony with the Vietnam/Expatville border showing the dirt road only 10 metres from the lush Japanese style garden that is kept manicured by hand scissors. Then a close up of the garden itself.

The building is called 'Grand View' but the view really aint that grand. It's on the riverfront so there are some lovely restaurants along the front.

Including this one! Cafe Terrace. My new home. I discovered it for breakfast and almost died. It is SO gorgeous. Very funky dunky with cool lounge music, fantastic interior design, great food, GREAT coffee and free WIFI. I went there for dinner too! I plan on living there! (it's right under my building so very convenient). Check out the yummy spring rolls. Agghhh! I am in heaven.

I'll post some photos of the apartment tonight once I get some more things in it. :) Off to have breakfast at Cafe Terrace now. :)

Great pics Coco and nothing like what I thought vietname would be like - very civilised - had visions of what it is depicted in MASH - how naive am I? Love the look of the food in the cafe - how lucky are you haveing it right below you.
I've been trying to complete a restaurant listing for this Cafe Terrace. Do you have the phone number for this branch (I can only find the one for the Saigon Centre branch)?
MASH is a televsion show about a hospital in the combat zone during the Korean War. Saigon is a Vietnamese city that is rapidly modernizing. These photos are from Saigon in 2008. MASH takes place in rural South Korea in 1950-1953. And, yes, the Vietnamese are civilized people. They always have been.
Was just checking out phu my hung..and your appartment name sounded familiar...I think my dad lives in the same building as you, and hes in advertising too!
Im australian, and comments made by you and other posters are very ignorant. It doesnt suprise me that this is the first time you have lived overseas. Its quite appalling the ignorance of my fellow countrymen.
Not everyone can be as educated and worldly as you.... that's why some of us are grateful for the opportunity to live abroad.
At least we have the balls to post under out name not "Anonymous".
Ignorant? maybe. But at least I'm not gutless.
